The county has a modular shelter, a 16 foot square structure with a separate feed room, built by students at Piedmont Vocational Technical Center for $2,000, the cost of the materials. The building must be moved by the end of the school year; the question is where.
Earlier, the supervisors proposed to locate the shelter on county-owned property at Scrabble, formerly the site of a segregated school and now used as a home for several dumpsters. Approximately $4,000 was spent on improvements to the lot before the supervisors backed off in the face of opposition from neighbors and the threat of legal action if a pound was placed there.
