At Monday’s special board meeting, the Rappahannock supervisors announced that they intend to adopt the long delayed revision of the county’s zoning laws in July.
“I think we should get to work on the new zoning ordinance so we can get it passed,” said Supervisor J.R. Latham.
“You know I’m ready, Mr. Latham!” responded Supervisor J. Newbill Miller, who as a Planning Commissioner, spent the past two years reviewing and revising the current zoning regulations.
“I think it should be as soon as possible, once our new man comes on board,” agreed Chairman Hubert Gilkey, referring to John McCarthy, the zoning administrator and administrative assistant to the board who was hired last week. (Mr. McCarthy will assume the post on June 16.)
“I’d like to have a work session in June with Mr. McCarthy,” Supervisor Miller added.
“And adopt the new ordinance in July,” Chairman Gilkey concluded.
In a second zoning matter discussed at Monday’s special meeting, the four board members informally agreed on changes to setback regulations.
