At 3:30 everyone assembled on the banks of the North Field, and Headmaster William E. Lynn announced the final scores. For the first time in the school’s history, the Athenians had out-scored the Spartans. The final score was a close 445 to 429. Certificates and varsity letters were presented to team captain Poore and assistant captain Lisa Johnson of Delaplane.
There is no doubt that the return of field day was a great success. It also provided students with a muchneeded break between the end of the final grading period and the beginning of examinations.
