The gavels of the Daughters of the American Revolution on national, state and local levels will soon be changing hands after a three-year term of office. Mrs. Dale Metzinger, Regent of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR, who has capably served three terms, will turn the gavel over to Mrs. Zillah Gutowski at the June meeting.
Mrs. Metzinger conducted the May 13 meeting of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter which was held at the Culpeper United Methodist Church and hosted by Mrs. Thomas Clarke and Mrs. R. C. Sharpe. Mrs. Woodruff Kearns in her devotions emphasized water conservation as “we are caretakers for the future.”
A message was read from the outgoing President General, Mrs. King, in which she expressed her sincere appreciation for the cooperation received from the chapters across the nation in carrying out her three-year project — Climatic Control of Constitution Hall in Washington, D. C. She also gave thanks for the more than half a million dollars contributed toward the Statue of Liberty restoration.
Mrs. Edgar Puryear, State National Defense chairman and chapter chairman, gave a report of her three years as state chairman in which she stated that the theme was “Peace through Strength.” Her objective was to enlighten public opinion.
Mrs. Puryear presented to Keith Randall Jones of Reva the National Defense Marine junior ROTC bronze medal at the school’s award program May 19. Keith was the outstanding ROTC member for 1985-86 at the
