“Real disappointing for the players,” was the way Coach Jon Huddleston described his reaction to the baseball season at Rappahannock High School, which ended for the Panthers on Monday with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Clarke County Eagles.
On the positive side, however, Coach Huddleston said that “we have a young team. . .we’re losing five seniors but we have five starters returning. We’ll be losing a lot (of experience) in those seniors, but we have a lot of potential.” He said that he has three freshman lettermen returning next year, joined by one sophomore and two juniors who lettered for the Panthers this season.
Although the Panthers’ record on the season was a heartbreaking 4-12, Coach Huddleston noted that Rappahannock boasted the second and third slickest base-stealers in the Bull Run District. H. B. Wood wound up with 23 for the season (including two in Monday’s game), and Rob Brown ended the year with 20 successful thefts.
