Meeting in a special Memorial Day session, the Rappahannock supervisors voted unanimously to extend the county’s contract with Community Trash Removal Inc. for another year, just squeezing under the May 30 deadline for the renewal option.
The county will pay Community Trash $5,281.43 per month to provide and maintain dumpsters with capacity of at least 256 cubic yards and to dispose of the solid waste deposited in the green boxes. The option year cost is up slightly from the $5,127.60 currently paid per month.
Under permits from the county and the State Health Department, Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Updike Jr. of Community Trash and Woodville landowner Clifton Clark operate a private landfill on Rudacill Mill Road.
Following an inspection in April, Robert Forman of the Health Department’s Division of Hazardous and Solid Waste Management ordered a closure plan submitted, judging that the landfdl will reach capacity by the end of June. That would leave the Updikes without a disposal site in the county for Rappahannock’s trash.
