Times were when having knee surgery meant several days’ hospitalization and a lengthy, painful recuperation.
Now, arthroscopy at Warren Memorial Hospital means surgeons can repair joint and cartilage problems through a small incision instead of a major operation. An instrument called an arthroscope is inserted into the knee and transfers the image to a t.v. monitor, allowing the physician to perform delicate surgery.
Arthroscopy causes less trauma to the knee, and patients are able to resume their normal activities sooner than with traditional surgery.
