“If we don’t sign it, we might be in a little deeper than we should be,” warned Chairman Hubert Gilkey.
“The contract reads that we can extend it for a year and that (the trash) is their responsibility once it’s in the containers,” Supervisor Newbill Miller pointed out, adding that the Commonwealth’s Attorney concurred with this interpretation. “We have the option to renew the contract for a year and they (Community Trash) are bound to take it.”
“If the state does close the Woodville site, I wouldn’t want to bring suit (to force Community Trash Removal to meet its contractual obligations and take responsibility for the county’s refuse),” countered Supervisor Estes.
“We don’t w'ant to close any options,” Supervisor Miller cautioned.
“What can we do to put pressure on the Health Department to let us keep (the landfill) open?” asked Supervisor J.R. Latham.
“Maybe we could ask for another inspection,” suggested Supervisor Miller, noting that removal of dumpsters at Slate Mills and Chester Gap should have reduced the flow of trash to the dump and lengthened its
