The State Police made their annual marijuana sweep through Rappahannock County on Tuesday and discovered one patch of the illegal weed, confiscating four plants suspected of being marijuana. The plants have been submitted for laboratory analysis. The raiders investigated seven locations where law enforcement officials had received “tips” that marijuana might be cultivated, according to Sheriff John Henry Woodward. He said that suspicious plants were found in only one location near Sperryville.
Sheriff Woodward explained that the state drug eradication program had run out of funds before Rappahannock County was reached, so the county-wide aerial surveillance of past years was not done this summer. A State Police helicopter, piloted by Trooper M. E. Horst, was
