The Thomassons can attest to the success of donkeys as watchdogs. “They run at the dogs when they enter their meadow; run right at them and get them down and roll them,” said Nan. “They’d make perfect shepherds for a flock of sheep.”
The Thomassons have Jill and Josie, two five-year-olds, Jubal, a one and a half-yearold jack and Molly Brown, a two-month-old baby.
“We’ve set donkey progress back two centuries,” laughed Nan. “The older donkeys used to be completely self-sufficient and useful on a large farm. Now they’re dependent on us for everything. We’ve made them into pets.”
