The committee also approved $1.2 million for the continued planning and engineering work for the construction of the Richmond flood wall.
Also approved was $10 million for deepening the outgoing Hampton Roads channel from 45 to 50 feet. “This project is of great economic importance to all Virginians from Tidewater to the great Southwest. This will provide deep-draft channels necessary for exporting our coal, farm products and other goods. It will mean a more favorable competitive posture for U.S. exports and a more favorable balance of trade,” Sen. Trible said.
Other projects approved include: $2.2 million for continued construction of the Canal Number Two flood control project in Virginia Beach and $900,000 for continued planning and engineering for shoreline protection for Virginia Beach.
