“But anything, anything is better than pulling,” said Mrs. Postelle, remembering a day when she and her husband spent several hours in the hot sun getting their jennets loaded to take home after being bred.
Otherwise, say the Postelles, the jennets are tractable, easy to deal with, friendly and affectionate. Both mothers foaled with no trouble and are conscientious parents. The jacks, at tw'o months, are nearly as large as their mothers and were almost their present height at birth. The Postelles plan to wean them at six months.
Other plans include training them to respond to commands and to become accustomed to a rider.
“But mostly,” said Mrs. Postelle, “they’re all pets. We really love having them here.”
