The Virginia State Police and the Department of Motor Vehicles announced recently the beginning of a public information campaign to assure that owners of so-called “HiRise" motor vehicles are aware of changes made to Section 46.1-282.1 of the Code of Virginia which become effective January 1,1987.
Specifically, this section of the Code refers to the alteration of vehicle suspension systems and continues current regulations pertaining to the modification of passenger vehicles while adding a new paragraph regulating similar modifications to trucks.
Passenger vehicle bumpers, measured from the ground to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper, must continue to be within the range of 14 to 22 inches above the ground. Trucks, however, must be within certain limits depending on their gross vehicle weight ratings.
