Welch vies for
revenue job
Mollie Dennis Welch of Flint Hill has announced her candidacy for the office of Commissioner of Revenue for Rappahannock County.
Mrs. Welch worked in the commissioner’s office for “just ovqr a year. I enjoyed working there I like working with people,” Mrs. Welch said.
She added that most of her work experience has been in positions in the public sector. She resigned a position in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service to run for the office of Commissioner of Revenue. Mrs. Welch has worked for the ASCS for three years. She explained that federal regulations prohibit an individual for seeking public office while employed by the federal government.
Mrs. Welch added that in addition to the time she spent working in the Commissioner of Revenue’s ofi flee, she aj^o worked closely with that office while employed by the ASCS. Those offices share information concerning land-use records and planning.
Mrs. Welch added that her qualifications include, besides her experience in the commissioner’s office, two accounting courses.
Mrs. Welch is married and has two children. She has been a resident of Rappahannock County for 25 years, and graduated from Rappahannock High School in 1975.
Correction
In the article about Frances Thornton in last week’s paper, it was incorrectly stated that Mrs. Thornton was responsible for instituting the May Day program at the Rappahannock Elementary School.
Actually, Mary Botts Quaintance began the program at the Sperryville School. When the schools were merged, the program was discontinued.
