The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved funding for several major projects in Virginia, including the Roanoke flood control project, dredging the port of Hampton Roads, construction of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator, and the Richmond flood wall, Senator Paul Trible announced.
“These important projects will add to the safety and the economy of Virginia and will improve the quality of life in the Commonwealth. I’m pleased these projects are one step closer to becoming a reality,” Sen. Trible said.
The committee recently approved the Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill which includes Senator Trible’s request for $900,000 to begin flood control measures along the Roanoke River. This would include planning for construction of ten miles of channel along the river to contain run off, installation of a flood warning system, replacing low bridges and flood-proofing the Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Roanoke sewerage treatment plant.
“It’s essential that we begin this project now, to avoid a tragic loss of life and property in the future,” the Senator said.
