In today’s fast-paced society, time for menu planning and meal preparation is limited. Between fulltime jobs, community involvement and family commitments, many time-honored traditions have been placed on the back burner.

For consumers whose lifestyle fits this description, the new VDACS calendar will meet your needs. The 1987 theme, “Life in the Fast Lane,” takes the tradition of fine Virginia foods in the direction of microwave and quick and easy recipes.

Included are microwave tips, types of cookware to use and suitability for microwave cooking, defrosting guidelines, microwave terms and power levels and even how to roast peanuts.

Use of individual products is also addressed in the calendar. For example, if you’re counting calories, you can substitute skim milk for cream or half and half in a recipe. There are also tips for ripening fresh tomatoes, making and storing marinades and making a nutritious afterschool snack.

The tips and recipes featured each month are the right size for clipping and filing in your recipe box.

Virginia agricultural industries contributing to the 1987 calendar include Virginia State Apple Board, Virginia Cattlewomen, Virginia Broiler Producers Association, Virginia State Dairymen’s Association, Virginia Egg Council, Virginia Sheep Federation, Virginia Peanut
