He explained that a brush ordinance similar to the one passed by Culpeper County would minimize the problem of wind blowing litter off the backs of trucks as they transport trash or brush, while also making it easier for the Sheriffs Department to spot potential illegal dumpers.
Mr.^-McCarthy announced that RALLY is trying to organize an operation to dispose of abandoned cars for county residents. He said that the county has found two scrapyards which will accept junk vehicles.
Gardner Ivan and Metal in Orange pays 40 cents per hundredweight for scrap, and Zuckerman Metals in Winchester pays 25 cents per hundredweight.
Mr. McCarthy said that at this time residents must transport the vehicles to the scrapyards themselves, but that RALLY is attempting to organize a cooperative effort to enable county residents to dispose of junked vehicles.
RALLY also announced that information about oil collection centers in Warrenton and Front Royal is available at the Zoning Office, for
those who change their own oil and have no place to dispose of it. “Don’t landfill that oil,” Mr. McCarthy
urged. “Call 675-3342 for information about the location of oil collection stations, or for information about any of RALLY’S activities.”
