The students had the opportunity to repay the kindness on Teacher Appreciation Day, held on Friday. Some students proudly brought in gifts, flowers or paid good wishes to their teachers.
Friday was also a day to remember and appreciate Reggie Smith, VEA director of Human Relations and Leadership Development until his death last February. Rosebud stickers were given to RCEA members to wear in his honor. His contributions included several workshops in the county for teachers.
Copies of the Robert Llewellyn pictures on the VEA posters hung in classrooms have been framed and presented to the School Board. A set was presented to the Board of Supervisors and an additional set was presented to each of the school principals.
These activities were in response to the report of the Governor’s Commission on Excellence in Education encouraging Virginians to respond to Gov. Baliles’ charge to strive to make the Commonwealth one of the top 10 states in quality of education in the country.
