The Rappahannock County High School Pop Quiz team will be on the road again for the fifth consecutive year to participate in the academic television show Pop Quiz. The competition will be filmed Tuesday, Dec. 2 and shown on Channel 51 from Harrisonburg or Channel 42 through Front Royal at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.

Senior Jonathan Watson, sophmores Dwight Parker and Brendan Finnerty and freshman Liz Oliver comprise this year’s team. Coaches Cindy Wayland and Roger Flinchqm-^ spent one month testing potentials members and having numerous mock competitions to arrive at the four people who showed the most knowledge and ability to work together.

Rappahannock is ranked 10th this year among 32 teams. The team’s first match is against Waynesboro. The team has been competing against teacher and adult groups after school once a week in preparation for the match. The students have won most of the practice matches.

“I’m glad that there is something to add some excitement and competition to academic work,” said Coach Flinchum. “It’s a pity there are so few exciting events for an academically talented student to enjoy.”

“Sometimes I think the team enjoys the practices against adult teams as much as the matches against other schools,” he added. “I’m not too sure that the adults teams don’t enjoy it as much as the students. It’s a shame that matches can’t be more frequent for all parties involved.”
