The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) has designated March 21 to 28, 1987, as Clean Rappahannock Week.
According to John McCarthy, zoning administrator and RALLY’S coordinator, “a full week of anti-littering consciousness-raising will lead to Clean-up Day, Saturday, March 28.” RALLY will organize a county-wide all-day volunteer effort to clean up roadsides, streams and illegal dumping grounds.
Mr. McCarthy suggested that community organizations such as the Boy and Girl Scouts may wish to use the opportunity to collect aluminum cans for recycling, as well as participate in the all-day effort. He added that RALLY" plans to present Tshirts to all participants who spend the day with RALLY.
RALLY’S Clean Environment poster contest ’‘is in full swing” in the county schools, according to Mr. McCarthy. The deadline for the contest is Dec. 1, and all students interested in entering a poster in the contest should submit their work to Mrs. Helen Holschuh as soon as possible.
Mr. McCarthy said that the Zoning Office has received several complaints from county residents about brush from construction sites in Northern Virginia being brought into the county to be disposed of. The zoning administrator noted that Culpeper County has passed an ordinance making it illegal to transport brush or trash in an uncovered vehicle, and said that his office is investigating options available to the county to control the problem of ille
