A time to pause
Today is Thanksgiving, and around the county families will be spending the day together, sitting down to the traditional feast with all the trimmings, and giving thanks for all that we, as residents of Rappahannock, are blessed with.
We do indeed have a lot to be thankful for.
Sometimes it is difficult to remember that, with all the problems which seem to plague the county at this time. The pressures of growth, demands for increased and updated services, conflicts between different agencies of government, or between neighbors — sometimes the tensions seem to overwhelm even the most determined optimists.
Thanksgiving comes at an opportune time.
It is a day for everyone to pause, to try and put aside the issues which divide us, and reflect on the natural bounty which is the common heritage of all the residents of Rappahannock.
There are few places in the county where that bounty is not immediately evident to even the most casual observer. We are blessed, and this day of Thanksgiving seems a perfect time to remember that, and to try and keep it in mind as - come tomorrow -- we return to the business of planning for the future of Rappahannock.
