Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) will become the ranking minority member on the Armed Services Committee when the 100th Congress convenes in January.
Sen. Warner moves up to the ranking position because Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.), who is Warner’s senior on the Armed Services Committee, has stated that he will remain on the Judiciary Committee as its ranking minority member.
Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.) will become chairman, succeeding Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-Ariz.).
