Board members endorsed a letter to the supervisors, asking for their intentions regarding the capital outlay project and requesting that a public hearing be set as soon as possible. Although the supervisors have met three times since receipt of the School Board’s letter, there’s been no reaction to the request and no discussion of the RCHS capital outlay proposal.
In addition to organizing a petition drive, the new citizens support group agreed on Sunday to launch a telephone campaign to back up the request that the hearing date be set on Dec. 1.
The petitions will be available within a week at key locations around the county or from committee members - Robin Day, Guy Foster, Holly May, Clarence Dodson, Carol Foster, Julian Brown, Camille Harris, Nancy Schoppet, Patty Mullin, Carol Leonardson and Vicky Eastham.
According to Mrs. Harris, the group plans several fund raising activities
to finance its publicity campaign. Those who would like to donate to the effort should make checks payable to the Rappahannock County Elementary School’s Student-Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA). ‘This committee was initiated by the SPTA, which, in November, decided that the RCHS building project would be the number one focus for the year,” Mrs. Harris explained.
The Supporters of the RCHS Building Project will meet again Dec. 2 for a progress report and discussion of action to be taken in light of whatever the supervisors did at their session the day before.
