Leesburg
The Preservation Society of Loudoun County will sponsor a free Preservation Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Conference Room, County Administration Building, Leesburg. Seven speakers will address a range of preservationrelated topics.
The focus of the morning sessions will be on practical, hands-on aspects such as the restoration of stone fences and spring houses, and methods of finding help. After a lunch break, an overview of Loudoun’s historic places will be followed by sessions on specific issues, including the role of the Historic Districts Review Board and the coexistence of historic sites with new development.
Speakers are: David Edwards, Virginia Division of Historic Landmarks; Paul Rose, Preservation Society historian; William F. Miner, exhibits officer, Library of Congress; David Via, stone mason; Brenda Knop, chairwoman of the Loudoun County Historic Districts Review Board; Milton Herd, chief of comprehensive planning for Loudon County; and Gladys Lewis, coordinator of PLAN 87. Jackson Walter, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will moderate the sessions.
