great need for a solution to this problem when Maggie Piper, the RCES principal, two years ago included bus communications equipment in her end of the year wish list to the PTA. The PTA began to act on the problem by looking into different types of communications systems available. Former Assistant Superintendent Tom Campbell investigated the use of communication systems in various counties. And the ball began to roll.
After many experiments and trials of different systems in all parts of the county, Superintendent Dr. David Gangel has found a system that will help to keep “bus-riding” Rappahannock students safe - the Community Shared Repeater System.
The Community Shared Repeater is a high frequency system which has straight line communication (straighter than lower bands). The signal goes from where the mobile radio is to a repeater tower. The signal is received and regenerated or boosted and sent on to the base station. The repeater tower is located on Linden Mountain near Front Royal.
