Historically, a state-sponsored lottery has not necessarily improved education nor increased the education budget in other states. Too often the attitudes of legislators have been, when working on the state budget, that education does not need to be allotted monies from other sources beeause the lottery is generating money for education. Therefore, the education budget runs the risk of remaining static.
During the summer we have asked people from across the state of Virginia if they are going to vote “Yes” or “No” on the lottery issue. There has always been an emphatic “No” in response. People from out of state have said, “Don’t let that happen in Virginia.”
We urge all to vote “No” on the lottery issue on Nov. 3.
