the Sheetz’s nine-year-old son Johnny was awakened by the fire, woke his parents and then ran to the Jolliffe’s house to report it. In the meantime, Mrs. Sheetz had gotten out of the house.
Larry Jolliffe ran to the house and dragged out Mr. Sheetz, who had fallen in the living room. Then he tried to rescue Danielle, but was unable to reach her.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheetz were taken to Fauquier Hotepital by the Castleton Rescue Squad, where they were held overnight for observation. Johnny Sheetz Jr. was not injured. He was reported to be staying with relatives.
According to Sheriff Woodward, Danielle’s bedroom was a porch which had been closed in, and the only entrance was from inside. With visibility near zero because of the dense smoke, the firefighters had a hard time working their way through the cluttered house to the back bedroom.
