It was an exciting day for Wakefield, as the Owls bested county rival Rappahannock in a see-saw soccer match played before Wakefield’s home, and homecoming, crowd. Afterward, both coaches had high praise for their opponents.

“The entire team played a super game,” said Rappahannock Coach Scott Currie.

Wakefield Coach Uli Maeyer agreed, adding that although the rivalry between the county’s only two high schools continues, it has become a much healthier competition, with the sometimes hard feelings which had surfaced in the past now only a memory.
