taught by remedial teachers or aides and scheduled instead of study hall or a sixth subject, or offered in an after-school class that will meet four hours a week, with transportation possibly provided at least part of the year by the activity bus.
The high school has no Chapter I labs. Students who scored between the 26th and 40th national percentile in reading will receive at least 18 additional remedial reading assignments and exercises from their English teacher. “Asking for additional Chapter I people is not an option at this time. Maybe it will be next year if funds are available,” said Mr. Chappell.
He noted that an appropriation for the new remedial programs was not included in the 1988-89 budget since the administration believed that the State Department of Education would delay implementation until next year.
