Oh, it’s true that they aren’t always as neat and tidy about disposing of their soda bottles and candy wrappers in the trashcans as one would like, and occasionally some of the language isn’t particularly appropriate for use in front of your maiden aunt, but on balance it’s a marvelous place for people of all ages to get away from in front of the TV set and enjoy themselves in a delightful setting.
At least 95 percent of those who use the facilities seem to think of the Park as their property, thus deserving of being kept more neatly than one expects public facilities to be kept. To verify that, you need only to go to the grounds around the pavilion early on a Sunday or Monday after one of the big events there the day before. You’ll be amazed at how clean the place is!
A single suggestion (or complaint): Three months or so ago one of the baskets of the basketball court was broken off by some show-off who had been watching too much NBA action, and it hasn’t been fixed yet. It should be. Right away!
But except for that one item, the Park Board has done a superb job, deserving of the thanks of all of us. And we should be grateful, too, for whoever had the original idea for the Park. It has been — it is — a most important element of the county’s social and athletic life.
