Planners don’t show, hearing cancelled
Since only two members of the town’s Planning Commission, Bill Frizzell and Reinhardt Lynch, appeared at a scheduled public hearing on amendments to the zoning and historic district ordinances, the hearing was cancelled. By law, to convene the hearing a quorum of both the council and the commission had to be present.
“We’ll let the planning commissioners check their busy schedules to see if they can fit it in to get here” before the rescheduled hearing is advertised, Mayor Morehouse said.
“I have a real problem with the degree to which the Planning Commission is not doing its job,” Mrs. Harris told the council. “If it can’t do its job, then it’s time for some resignations and starting over.
“There’s no coordination, there’s no one in charge. It makes a farce of our town government,” she said.
Secretary Ray Gooch added, “We should let them know. The residents should let them know.”
“You would never allow your business to be run like this,” Mrs. Harris continued. “I saw one member on my way to this meeting - she’s not here. One member never comes. There should be a requirement of notice if they’re not here. ”
