Story hour to begin

The Rappahannock Library will present its story hour for preschoolers on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. beginning Oct. 19 and continuing through Nov. 16. To pre-register call the Library at 675-3780.

Lamaze reunion

A reunion of the Culpeper Memorial Hospital Lamaze childbirth classes will be held at the hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 19, between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Bring the coach and children. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

Wildlife management courses

The 14th annual Fall Forestry and Wildlife Bus Tour programs are available at the Extension Office. Tours are scheduled for Oct. 20 and 21, Nov. 3 and 4. A special course for landowners in wildlife management, with emphasis on quail, is being held Oct. 27-28 in the Richmond area, with a field trip to the Amelia Wildlife Management Area. Ham and turkey dinner

Castleton Fire Department will sponsor a ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Friday, Oct. 28, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the fire hall. Prices are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. For additional information call 937-6051.

'Manon of the Spring'

The movie Manon of the Spring will play at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16, at 7:30 p.m. It will be shown in French with English subtitles. The picturesque Provencal countryside is the setting for this magnificent sequel to Jean de Florette. Evil is punished and good rewarded when the breathtakingly beautiful daughter (Emmanuelle Beart) of Jean de Florette wreaks vengeance upon the cruel peasants (Yves Montand and Daniel Auteuil) responsible for her father’s death. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

15-year get together

Scholarship benefit banquet

A benefit banquet for the Julia E. Boddie Scholarship Fund, Rappahannock County Elementary School, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. The speaker will be James Fountain. Donation is $12. F. T. Valley Church auction

The F. T. Valley Baptist Church in Slate Mills will hold an auction to benefit its building fund on Saturday, Nov. 5, beginning at 10 a.m. Items are needed for the auction; anyone with donations is asked to call Everett Yowell, 923-4414, or Walter B. Kilby, 825-5381, to arrange a pickup.

Movie night frees parents

The Child Care and Learning Center will offer a “Friday Night at the Movies” for children ages three to 12 years on Friday, Oct. 14. This evening will give parents a chance to hear Jesse Winchester at the Gay Street Theatre. CCLC will present a feature movie, cartoons, refreshments, and game time. The cost per hour per child will be $3. Refreshments are 25 cents per item. Parents must register by the day before so that we can get an accurate count of children. A sign-up sheet will be available at CCLC or parents can call 675-3237 to place the child’s name on the list. Families with more than one child will get a $1 per hour discount on each additional child.

Artist Hoffman shows paintings

Artist Deborah Cass Hoffman of Rixeyville will present a special showing of miniature paintings of Rappahannock County vistas and Washington homes and historic sites Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. Several large paintings featuring the Rappahannock Hunt will also be shown. The display will be at The FosterHarris House bed and breakfast on the west end of Main Street in Washington. All paintings are for sale. Ms. Hoffman will also be taking a limited number of special orders for paintings for Christmas gifts. The public is cordially invited. For more information, call Camille Harris at 675-3757.
