Super-heated liquids reach temperatures above the 212 degree F. boiling point, yet show no signs of surface boiling. The air bubbles that trigger boiling have evaporated. Because the liquid is waiting to boil, just a speck of dust or a tiny air bubble caused by a slight vibration is all that is needed to initiate vigorous boiling or an intense eruption.
