The Panthers followed the Wakefield match with another on Tuesday against St. Ann’s of Belfield from Charlottesville. That school fell to Rappahannock during their first meeting earlier this season, and lost again to the Panthers on Tuesday by a score of 2-1.
Scoring for Rappahannock on Tuesday (were Cjrego Bustos, assisted by Mark Butler, and Jens Madsen, with an assist from Chris Moyles.
Coach Dietz noted that at an early-season invitational tournament at St. Ann’s, the school emerged the winner after defeating Wakefield and Charlottesville High School, two of the area’s soccer powerhouses.
And, the coach added, prior to the two victories this season, the Panthers had not defeated St. Ann’s in seven years. The win Tuesday brings the team’s record for the season to 5-3. “With each win,” Coach Dietz said, “the RCHS soccer team continues to set a new school record for wins in a single season.”
Rappahannock was beaten by Charlottesville at a match earlier this year 4-0. However, the Panthers record, at 4-3 is the best in the school’s history, Coach Dietz said.
He credited his three exchange students with providing the team with a catalyst, adding that Gregorio Bustos leads the team’s scoring with eight goals, followed by Jens EjnarMadsen with five.
Philip Daczewitz, the coach added, “has been doing an excellent job in goal, along with Doug Smith and Wayne Dodson at fullback. They have been superb. ”
Against Madison, in a game played in the rain which the Panthers won 5-4, Mr. Dietz had high praise for Mark Butler again. “He
