And the tattered tennis shoes that he once wore to sprint around the kitchen?. “They’re on my feet right now,” he said, letting loose a long round of the infectious laughter that is his trademark ev^fery bit as much as the ever-innovative and palate-pleasing cuisine of The Inn. “I generally wear them until the soles fall off! Years back, when I was too busy for a fitting, I’d send our receptionist over to Skippy’s (the Washington Cash Store) for a pair of blacktops or whatever they had in size 11. Then tennis shoes were $8 a pair. Now, they’re $60.” He laughed some more. “When people say dinner is expensive, I say, ‘My God, look at the price of tennis shoes.’ It’s a matter of priorities: You can have dinner at The Inn — or a pair of new Air Jordans!”
