Saturday’s Community Recycling Day, the fifth since the project began in September, will also mark the last for the near future, according to litter coordinator Nina Stamer.
“We’re on hold for right now,” Mrs. Stamer said, “although we plan to resume the recycling project as soon as the shed at the landfill can be constructed.”
According to Mrs. Stamer, the problem is that Piedmont Recycling is no longer willing to participate in the once-a-month recycling activities, which have been held the third Saturday of each month at the Rappahannock County Park from 9-11 a. m.
County Administrator John McCarthy said that the Board of Supervisors has approved a contract and has sent it to Chuck Stinnett, the company’s president, for his approval. Once the contract is signed, he said, the recycling center should be set up shortly afterward.
In the meantime, however, county residents are in danger of losing a good habit, and that bothers Mrs.
