• The board decided to ask the Landfill Advisory Committee for a recommendation on how and when to provide the landfill operator with an on-site office which would double as shelter in bad weather. “Right now, Mr. Artz sits in his truck with the motor running in cold weather,” Col. Bingham reported.
• The board appointed Aileen Johnson to the three-member Welfare Board. Mrs. Johnson, the postmaster for Sperryville, is a former member of that body. In addition, the supervisors agreed to expand the Welfare Board to five members but delayed that action pending scheduling of the required public hearing.
• Ann Spieker wras named as Piedmont District’s representative on the Rappahannock Recreation Authority and Troy Jenkins was appointed as Everett Estes’ replacement on the Building Appeals Board.
• Following an executive session, the position of animal w arden was increased to 30 hours per week and the salary upped to $12,500 with the board to consider making it a fulltime job in the next fiscal year.
County attorney Peter Luke was also authorized to give a bid of $2,100 on the county’s behalf for property to be offered at auction for delinquent taxes. (The figure represents the board’s investment in advertising and legal fees related to the sale.)
• Wakefield District representative Hubert Gilkey was re-elected as the board’s chairman and Piedmont District Supervisor Charles “Pete” Estes as vice chairman.
