Mrs. Sims said that this and the positive support in the community enabled the library to win this unusual honor. She cited support from Friends of the Library, RAAC, the Middle Street Gallery, the schools and private discussion groups.
Similar programs presented by the library have been most successful, with 30 to 50 residents attending the sessions of fiction and biography.
The grant includes training concluded recently in San Diego, fees for local scholar Peter Klappert, a professor and poet who will be attending each session, a 13-part videocassette set, 30 copies of the textbook and promotional materials.
