Reflect now: there is a vast difference between our expectations for earthly satisfactions, and our hope for our spiritual future. Here is the "hope" on which we prayerfully concentrate during this "great season of Advent." We join the Patriarchs and the Prophets in this period of eagerly awaiting the fulfillment of the expectation of all nations. Simeon rejoiced when at last he saw his dream fulfilled; let us rejoice with him at this time of God's coming to us in Jesus the Christ, our Savior. He came, and remains with us: Love Incarnate. He was and is forever: Hope fulfilled. He is all we need now and forever.
So we relive the happy anticipatory days before the lovely Feast of Christmas. We pray as we celebrate the Birth of the Child in Bethlehem; we pray as we await His coming to us: "Come, Lord Jesus! Come and set us free from our sinfulness. Amen."
