This year is different, though. In the past, Rappahannock has worked with a Culpeper 4-H club and leader to provide items to those in need.
This year, Rappahannock Brownies, juniors and cadets, the Rappahannock Horse and Pony Club, The Baptist Young Women and April Heddleston’s Sunday School class under the direction of Peggy Banker and Janet Smoot tackle the responsibility alone and exemplify the idea of giving with the Support-the-People giveaway.
Organizer and Culpeper 4-H leader Brenda Knoll said the first year, the community response to Support the People was tremendous. “The first year we collected items and through Social Services provided items to those in need,” Mrs. Knoll said of the program’s beginning, explaining that with help from the Rappahannock Horse and Pony Club and Culpeper Heads-Up Club, those in need were helped.
The second year, Mrs. Knoll found herself deluged with items, filling her family room. “I thought, why not let people just come get what they want,” she said.
