Christmas Story'
The movie A Christmas Story will be playing at the Gay Street theatre, 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 16 and 17. The movie stars Peter Billingsly, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon. This? is Jean Shepherd’s delightful memoir of growing up in the 1940’s and wanting nothing so much as a Red Rider BB Gun. Shepherd narrates in the first person and Billingsly delightfully portrays him as a boy. The movie is rated G.
Flint Hill VFD fundraiser
The Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a gun raffle to raise money for the department. One gun will be given away for each of the next 12 months. Tickets are $20 each, are good for the entire 12-month period and are available from any Flint Hill VFD member. They may also be ordered by mail; send a check or money order payable to Flint Hill VFD, P.O. Box 150, Flint Hill 22627. Tickets will be sent by return mail.
Holiday giveaway planned
There will be a toys and clothes giveaway, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at Washington Fire Hall. Santa will be there at 1 p.m. to help distribute the goods. If you have donations of useable clothes, toys and household items, there are boxes at the Washington and Flint Hill fire halls. For more information, call Peggy, 675-3563, or Janet, 987-9029. Landscape show at gallery

Art, classes at Middle St.
The “Art for Gifts” show at Washington’s Middle St. Gallery will run through Dec. 31. Original art gifts for children and adults are available to choose from. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday through Sunday; 9 a.m.-noon, Mondays and Wednesdays; and any other time by appointment, 703-675-3440. The gallery will be the site of two workshops this month. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, Janet Kerig will instruct a class on wreath-making. The fee is $46, which includes materials.
