Virginia State Police reported a number of minor “fender-bender” accidents, but no serious injuries due to the recent winter storms. The police urge that motorists stay off the roads unless travel is essential, and to use extreme care when driving on all roads.
At night, particularly, icy patches may not be visible until the vehicle is right up on top of it and it is too late to stop. And snow which melts on back roads often freezes during the night, leaving sheer ice under the packed snow surface. Both conditions are extremely dangerous, even for heavy vehicles and four-wheel drives.
