The vote to pay the bills was 4-1, with Mr. Massie voting “Nay.” “We have some that don’t have amounts on them, so we’re approving blank checks,” Mr. Massie said, explaining his vote.
In other action, the supervisors:
• agreed to hold the January meeting Wednesday, Jan. 3. The date was changed because New Year’s falls on the regular first Monday meeting date.
• learned that the six-year road plan will be up for public hearing at the January meeting, and that a copy of the improvements scheduled is posted in Mr. McCarthy’s office.
• approved Potomac Edison’s application for a special-exception permit to enclose all their property at the Sperryville substation with a chain link fence, with the provision that evergreens be planted to screen the fence.
• learned that an agreement has been reached to serve the people on Oden Avenue, a short dead-end road off Piedmont Avenue on the west side of Washington. The county will provide a culvert, and the highway department will install it.
• appointed Mr. Anderson as Rappahannock’s representative to the Rappahannock River Basin Advisory Committee of the State Water Control Board.
