imburse Rappahannock County for the state’s 50-percent share for the jail addition.
Mr. McCarthy said that he expected final approval from the state for the plans for the addition in several weeks, but that construction cannot start until spring. Mr. McCarthy said the bid process could start as soon as the plans were approved. “This will allow a longer bid season,” he said. “We can have more meetings with contractors during the bid process.” The county will receive its reimbursement from the state when the state certifies that the addition is completed satisfactorily, he explained.
The supervisors also considered the perennial issue of the boundary line between the Town of Washington and Rappahannock County. “Mr. Smoot’s grandchildren will be grown and have children of their own before this is over,” Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham commented.
