It is typical for retailers not to guarantee survival of live Christmas trees. Placing a tree in a warm house in the middle of the winter and subsequently returning the tree to the winter environment is considerably more stressful than normal transplanting. This is further complicated by the fact tjtiat the ball may be undersized (rulie of thumb for standardsized ball is 10 inches of ball diameter for 1 inch of thrunk diameter, measured three to four inches above the ground).
