CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Nobody likes to spend time in the hospital.
It’s especially hard for a young man who is 60 miles from his family in Sperryville, recuperating from major surgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
But some celebrity visitors brightened Roy Thomas’s day last Thursday. Six members of the University of Virginia’s basketball squad paid Roy a “get well soon” visit at the hospital.
The visit from players Matt Blundin, John Crotty, Anthony Oliver, Jeff Daniel, Doug Smith and Bryant Stith was a surprise, arranged by Rappahannock County High School basketball Coach Gary Leake through Jeff Jones, newly-named U. Va. head coach.
Looking for a short moment a little bit stunned as the players filed into his hospital room and surrounded his bed, Roy’s face broke into a huge grin has he recognized the members of the varsity squad who he had seen so often on television.
