It is sad to find in a place as beautiful and serene as Rappahannock County people who are spiteful and hateful.
For 16 arduous years my husband; Bill Lynn, labored to build a school in this rural area that would bring the best possible education to anyone who wanted it.
To make this possible he charged only $800 the first year (roughly the annual cost of smoking for those with a two pack a day habit); and even then gave scholarships to half of the 33 students enrolled.
After his death his daughters, Katie and Marcy, knowing firsthand the sacrifices he had made, decided that the best tribute they could give to his memory would be to remake the sign that had twice been pulled down and defaced in his lifetime by local vandals.
Lovingly they spent 200 to 300 hours reproducing the design that he had approved. Wakefield had gone signless for two years hoping that in the interval the original felons had matured; finally the new sign was put up a month ago.
