This garden was laid out by and is the responsibility of Lori Mathews, horticulturist at The Inn. The Rappahannock County Garden Club claims Lori as one of its own, being the daughter of member Frances Russell.
Ms. Mathews addressed the membership at its first meeting of the spring season on the principles of design: line, form, texture, color, repetition, variety, balance and emphasis. She stressed the importance of laying out on paper a new garden before a spade hits the soil.
