Flint Hill’s Mark Jenkins was only eight when he made his first trek. This year he makes his last journey as a member of the 12 and under group.
“I practice every evening,” he said, adding that his workout means three to six miles a day.
Some join the trek for enjoyment. Sperryville’s Dennis Wingfield, usually raising money for a school cause, has just committed himself to the scheduled run. “I guess I will,” the Rappahannock County High School teacher said, adding he plans only to “cover the 6.2 miles and end in Washington” not run.
