Total income of F & M National Corporation for the first quarter of 1990 was $20.6 million, an increase of 9.7 percent over the same period last year. Net income was $2.51 million, or 28 cents per share, compared to the 1989 first quarter net income of $2.71 million, or 31 cents per share.

First quarter return on average assets was 1.28 percent while return on average equity was 14.73 percent.
